The Discovery

In the early morning (5:00 a.m.) On Tuesday September 14th, 2010 I decided to get up and take a home pregnancy test. As I waited for the test to start working, I was thinking that I really didn't expect to get a positive result.  I was not scheduled to miss a period until Saturday September 18th, 2010 (but if you know me then you know how patient I am lol).  After the three minutes it should have taken the test to display a result, the window was still empty, nothing had happened.  Apparently I had gotten a faulty test, ugh.  Since I did not have any more tests at home I decided to run to CVS later that afternoon.  When I got back home I quickly took the second test, which came up positive.  I was so happy!  I really was delighted and also had a bit of disbelief.  At that point I decided that since I'd purchased a three pack of tests I would take another test later that day just to be sure!

Some time later that afternoon, I took a third test which displayed a negative result.  Now I was really confused, so I went to the garbage can where my first test was and I pulled it back out and to my surprise it was POSITIVE!  Now I have a total of two positive tests and one negative.  I am wondering to myself, what does this mean?  I have never been in this kind of situation before, so I decided to wait until September 15th to take my final test.

First thing Wednesday morning I took my last test and it was also positive, so I think it's pretty safe to say that I am pregnant.  Now I'm trying to decide how and when to tell my family.  I wanted to figure out a fun way to tell Dave since this would be our last baby and I had never done anything unique before.  I took a picture of the positive pregnancy test and made it into a greeting card for him.  It was pretty cute and I could tell he was happy with the news :-)

I didn't tell anyone else, kids included until Sunday September 19th as the 18th was Kristin's sweet sixteen birthday and we didn't want to take anything away from her party.  The kids were all very happy and had definite opinions on what sex the baby should be.  It was really cute.

On Monday September 20th I finally started telling extended family, most were happy for us, some were not.  Everyone has their opinions in life and we just expect that and deal with it.  I believe that everything happens for a reason, and at this point as I sit here typing (at 6 weeks 5 days) there are a host of things that could go wrong with this pregnancy.  It is all in God's hands and I will just wait and see what he will bring to our lives.

Yesterday October 6th was my first doctors appointment with Dr. Barbara Diakos in Chicago, Illinois.  She performed an ultrasound and provided me with a host of risks for being pregnant after 35 (although she stressed that she thought 35 is still young ;-) )  I left the office scared and a little stressed, but like I stated earlier I know that it is in God's hands and whatever will happen will happen as it's all a part of His plan.  We are not in control, and I will not pretend to be.

I have attached a picture of my 6 1/2 week ultrasound, there isn't much to see yet, but Lord willing this precious little one will develop into a beautiful baby!
